parents who have a child with severe Autism?
Possibly could parents or people close friends or family answer a few questions about Autism.
1. How has having an Autistic child effected you and your family?
2. Do you get the support you feel you need from professionals?
3. If you receive care outside your family is there anything you would change?
4. What do you find challenges you the most with regards to behavior?
5. Does your child visit any activity groups or school?
thanks for all your help, any extra detail you would like to i would be grateful as im doing a uni course xx
1. We always had to have someone with my brother at all times. We could not attend some social functions because he might act up.
2. Professionals back in the 70’s when my brother was a child, did not seem to know much about autism at all and were not helpful.
3. I don’t know what we would change since not much was available back then. My brother was diagnosed with autism in 1972.
4. He does not comprehend cause and effect. He cannot chew with his mouth closed. You cannot tell him no when he is doing something or he will have a meltdown.
5. He used to go to a school for handicapped children. He used to go to a place for the handicapped where they did work, but they had no experience with autistic people and he was eventually kicked out. They had no idea how to handle meltdowns and they expected him to fill out a form when he only has a 20 word vocabulary. When my brother has a meltdown, he runs a fever and they wanted to say he was ill, but when he calmed down, his fever would go away.
