Stages Child Development

What Are The Best Kind Of Toys For Encouraging Child Development?
Baby toys are very important for your child’s development. Whilst they are designed to be fun and entertaining, they’re also crucial for the both their mental and Physical Development.
Whether its playtime, which is believed to enhance social, emotional and Intellectual Development, or the baby toys themselves, which are believed to enhance cognitive and motor skills, your child will be learning the fundamentals which are important to their growth.
Certain toys are played with at certain stages of the child’s development. Educational toys or developmental toys are very important here. Some people would argue that all toys are educational and developmental; to a certain extent this is true, however you need to get the right toy for the right stage of their development – these are the building blocks for a successful future – so it’s important to get it right.
Newborns to Six Months:
When your baby is born, some of the most incredible changes take place in their first year of development. At this stage you need baby toys that stimulate the senses; toys that are colourful, musical, and textured are most common at this stage.
For example, baby mobiles, baby rattles or stuffed animals with contrasting colours such as panda’s, zebra’s or penguins should be used within this period. The most important sense to develop at this stage is sight. Newborns can only focus to approximately 12 inches, so exposing your child to contrasting colours and human faces at a distance of approximately 12 inches is ideal.
Six Months to Twelve Months:
Interaction is key here. Again using toys that appeal to the senses is important, but also use more interaction from the parent/guardian. Games such as peek-a-boo are great for the child to develop a cause and effect relationship and begin to work on hand-eye coordination.
Stimulating physical activity should be introduced here, such as baby gyms, activity courses or even bouncers. Learning basic motor skills should be encouraged through toys that allow children to explore and discover. At this stage children are curious and want to investigate, so choose a toy that stimulates this.
Twelve to Eighteen Months:
This stage is really a development of the previous stage. You should choose toys that actively support a child’s curiosity and develop motor skills. Hand-eye coordination is key here as well, so choose toys such as building blocks or shape sorters to help develop this as well as their problem solving skills.
Eighteen to Twenty Four Months:
At this stage it’s all about imagination. Role play and make-believe are great at stimulating this type of development. So look for toys such as costumes, play houses, cars, dolls, or any other kind of object that mimics the real world. Here they can create their own world with a scaled down version of real life objects.
Problem solving should be further stimulated here as well. So choose toys such as puzzles or push and pull objects – this will encourage physical activity which is crucial around this time as children are making those first steps. So choose a toy that can assist with this such as a small trailer or pram.
Twenty Four to Thirty Six Months
This stage is all about motor co-ordination and creative play with craft type toys. So that’s anything like play dough, paints, clay and building blocks. These are types of open ended toys, which are called this because they do not have a specific purpose, and can encourage imaginative play. Toys like this can develop physical coordination, social interaction and mental aptitude. More structured toys are very useful to encourage social play with other children at this stage too. For example, board games.
Not every child will fall within the exact stage of development at the same time; therefore this is guideline as a rule of thumb as each child’s learning patterns is different.

7 Stages of Motherhood: Making the Most of Your Life as a Mom $0.99 Motherhood is the ultimate transformation, a powerful and thrilling metamorphosis. Yet the vast majority of parenting books focus on the how-tos of baby and child care, not on the care or development of mothers. Ann Pleshette Murphy—the former editor of Parents magazine, current parenting contributor to Good Morning America, and herself the mother of two—looks at the emotional lives of mothers, at how we change and grow from the moment we get pregnant to the day we watch our kids graduate from high school. The 7 Stages of Motherhood urges women to reflect on the seismic shifts they undergo at each stage of their children’s lives and to focus on their own evolution. Only by doing so, says Murphy, can we give children the best of ourselves. Many new moms assume that once things “get back to normal,” they’ll jump right back on their pre-baby path. But there’s no going back, according to Murphy, and that’s actually good news. Each stage of motherhood has its own challenges and opportunities. Motherhood forces us to hone muscles we never knew we had; to question our choices and goals; to reshape our relationships with family, friends, our spouses; and, most important, to rethink who we are and where we’re going. There’s as much circling, sliding, falling back as there is surg-ing ahead—and Murphy provides exactly the encouragement women need to overcome obstacles and celebrate their strengths. Writing with wit, warmth, and unfailing empathy about the challenges mothers face at each stage, Murphy offers insightful advice and gentle reassurance, showing moms how to make the most of their lives as they raise theirchildren.Drawing on hundreds of interviews with leaders in the field, a wealth of personal experience, a decade at the helm of Parents magazine, and, of course, countless conversations with other mothers, Murphy offers women invaluable advice about how to cope and how to thrive |

A Lifetime of Communication Transformations Through Relational Dialogues $112.85 A Lifetime of Communication explores the developmental processes that make for uniquely human change and growth. In this distinctive work, author Julie Yingling utilizes a single case example of a child, her parents, and other influential figures to demonstrate developmental interaction and transformational life events. Using relational and dialogic perspectives, Yingling follows the child from infancy into adolescence and adulthood, through the stages which the child acquires the means to communicate, to form and develop through relationships, to build human cognitive processes, and to understand the self as a responsible part of the social world. The work presents traditional and cutting-edge developmental theories as well as current research and relational perspectives in a palatable framework, employing a case example from a person’s life at the start of each content chapter. Yingling examines communication and cognition in the various stages of human development, making connections between communication, relationships, and maturation. She also distinguishes the biological and physiological portions of development from those that are relational and self-directed. She concludes the volume with a summary of relational dialogical theory and a discussion of the implications of this perspective of development-both for the future of communication study and for personal growth. This monograph offers many new insights to scholars in human development, relationships, family studies, social psychology, and others interested in communication and relationships across the life span. It is also appropriate for advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in relationships, developmental communication, and relational communication. |

A Parent’s Guide to Effectively Communicating with Your Child: How to Speak So Your Toddler and Preschooler Will Listen and Do What You Say $24.95 Communicating with a toddler can make even the most patient parents doubt their parenting abilities. According to the Academy of Pediatrics, children begin to assert their independence and test the limits between the ages of one and four. For parents, this can be a frustrating time. With independence comes an array of bad behavior, often due to an inability to express their feelings. Temper tantrums, rebellion, and aggressive behavior are among the tactics children use when they cannot voice their needs. You can help children communicate effectively and deter bad behavior by adjusting your communication tactics to their level of understanding. If you are having trouble communicating with your child, A Parent’s Guide to Effectively Communicating with Your Child will provide proven communication techniques to help you convey your wishes in a way that he or she will understand. This book addresses the three stages of communication in young children: preverbal communication in children two years of age and under, beginning language in children ages two to three, and advanced communication in children ages three to four. Each of these stages involve a specific set of communication skills and related behavior. After reading this book, you will know how to effectively communicate with children throughout the different stages of development. By doing this, you will have a child who not only listens to you, but also does what you ask him or her to. Nurturing communication techniques are emphasized, including listening to and connecting with your child, understanding his or her unique qualities, encouraging cooperation, and helping your child deal with his or her feelings. You will learn how to help your child express when he or she is angry, scared, excited, or nervous through the use of words instead of bad behavior. You will learn the importance of speaking authoritatively to your child, avoiding inconsistency, staying calm when your child’s |

A Sunday School In Utopia $24.86 Purchase of this book includes free trial access to www.million-books.com where you can read more than a million books for free. This is an OCR edition with typos.Excerpt from book:CHAPTER III The Child’s Heritage Factors in the Development of the Child We cannot discover the nature of a child until we have studied his actions under various conditions, i.e. his actions will vary according to his environment. We do not know the nature of any object until we see what it will do under certain circumstances, e.g. a grain of corn has the power of producing other grains of corn, but it cannot actually do so until it is brought into a certain environment; that is, placed in the soil and subjected to heat and moisture. In a similar way the child has certain powers, but they cannot become actual until it is placed in certain surroundings. Innate powers in a child will lie dormant unless awakened and stimulated to activity by environment. So there are two factors in the child’s development—the inner and the outer : heredity and environment. All inner tendencies remain undeveloped, or at most develop slowly, without the action of favourable outer influences. Now the study of the inner and outer factors in humandevelopment, and the inquiry as to how the inner may be modified by the outer, is one of the problems of child study. Put briefly, we must discover the natural order of mental development and the modifying effects of various conditions at different stages of life. We have to ask what inner tendencies are prominent at each age, and how these tendencies are developed and modified by outer influences. Child study, therefore, is concerned with all the characteristics ofchildhood, and with the general laws of development. That is, the relation of environment to character. The art of the successful management of children depends consciously or unconsciously upon child study. We now come to consider the child’s heritage ; what it comes into the world |

A training workshop for police officers who interview child witnesses: Information concerning child development and the adverse impact of exposure to intimate partner abuse. $49.99 While violent acts overall continue to plague contemporary society, intimate partner abuses (IPA) in particular constitute a large proportion of law enforcement interventions. Because IPA largely occurs within the home, children are overrepresented at these scenes, and therefore responding officers are likely to encounter child witnesses to the IPA perpetrated by adults. Although interactions between police and child witnesses are a frequent occurrence, police officers often receive minimal training regarding appropriate child interviewing techniques. An understanding of different developmental stages, as well as possible effects that exposure to IPA may have on child witnesses, could help police officers conduct more appropriate and effective interviews. Such an understanding may also increase the officers’ level of comfort when conducting child interviews, as well as increase officers’ ability to identify areas where the child witness might benefit from treatment intervention. In order to help increase officers’ understanding relative to the above issues, the current project is a workshop designed for police officers who conduct interviews with children who have witnessed IPA. The goals of the workshop are to increase officers’ understanding of child development and the impact that exposure to IPA can have on these areas, and to increase the officers’ level of comfort when conducting child interviews. Self-report measures will also be created to assess the effectiveness of the workshop as well as identify areas for improvement. |
